Newborn Photos at home-Why you should skip the studio.

Picture this…

You are finally at home with your brand new little one and have spent a few days getting into somewhat of a new routine for all members of your family. You are all enjoying loving on your new baby, attempting to get a little rest, and mama is recovering from the birth. Everyone is in a haze of love, excitement, and lack of sleep. It is no wonder sometimes newborn photos get forgotten or families feel overwhelmed by the thought of having to get ready for photographs. As a mom of three, I know first hand how those first weeks feel. I know what families need during this time and added stress isn’t one of them. I photograph newborns and their families exclusively at home. See more below on why!

So many important life moments happen in the walls of our homes. This is your family story and newborn photos at home capture the moments worth remembering.

Home is where life and connection happen most naturally and people feel most comfortable in their own space. This is particularly true for kids. I love being able to capture kids in their own personal spaces within a home. Nurseries and childhood bedrooms tell such a story of the excitement and anticipation for the new baby and are such a personal and memorable part of childhood. Spaces where you feed your little one, or spend cozy moments together will be easier to recall years down the road. If you are hiring a photographer to capture your new baby and your family story, home is the ideal place to record your days together. You can see more examples and information on my website here.

Having a newborn is a big adjustment. Keeping things as simple as possible is a must.

One of the reasons that I feel that home is the best place to take newborn photos is because it is simple for families, recovering mama’s, and newborns. No packing up, no car ride (all of my babies screamed as newborns in their car seats and it was SO stressful), no forgetting an extra outfit for the inevitable oops. Keeping your session as simple and stress free as possible is my goal and I have put together guides and information to help you prepare. You can check out my blog post on that subject here and you will also get additional info and tips with your client welcome package. I am also available to answer questions every step of the way.

Newborn photos at home take on a more documentary approach. No posing newborns here!

I photograph newborns for the majority of the session where they are happiest…In their parents arms. I knew right away that my style for photographing newborns would be a more natural one. I capture all of the new baby details while they are in your arms and for a small part of your session while swaddled or laying comfortably on a soft surface near a window (as long as they are happy). If your baby wants to be held your entire session, great! We can capture the fleeting newborn details while they are in your arms. My goal is to capture this time for your family as it is and that means I am experienced and prepared to capture your family and baby beautifully in the way that is easy and stress free for everyone.
